Scout Resource is a program for Scouts Canada supporting a Canada-wide initiative to educate Canadian youth about boating safety, with an expectation of reducing boating accidents and Search and Rescue (SAR) incidents. This program targets youth through their participation in Scouting and Sea Scouts programs. Conveniently and economically delivered online, these materials include “train-the-trainer” guides for the Scouters, a dry land training program for Scouts enhanced by extensive video support and a variety of electronic and printable tools to help Scouts take the boating safety messages into their community to teach others; including friends, families, schoolmates and neighbours.
This program is formatted to follow the Scouts Canadian Path while including the Canadian Safe Boating Council’s “5 Key Steps to Safer Boating” messages;
1.) Wear your lifejacket
2.) Don’t drink and boat
3.) Take a boating course
4.) Be prepared
5.) Beware of cold water risks.
The SmartBoater Youth program is created by the CSBC partner PlaySafe Productions, with funding assistance through the National Search and Rescue Secretariat, Public Safety Canada.
